6th Form Curriculum Guide - Year 12 Spanish
Term 1Grammar Transition Module 
Students will revise the key tenses learnt at GCSE as well as nouns, adjective agreement and pronouns. This unit will enable them to consolidate and develop their knowledge from GCSE on key structures. Students will also study new forms such as the pluperfect and subjunctive forms and direct and indirect object pronouns.
Assessment: Students will complete a short grammar test including gap fill tasks and translation. Key Words and Terms
 
Term 1/2Aspects of Hispanic Society: Los valores tradicionales y modernos   
In this unit students will study: - changes in the types of family in modern-day Spain - attitudes to marriage and divorce - the influence of the catholic church
Assessment: Students will complete an end of unit assessment on content covered as well as regular vocabulary tests throughout the unit. The end of year assessment will consist of listening and reading comprehension questions and a short translation. Key Words and Terms
 
Term 1/2Artistic culture in the Hispanic world: La influencia de los ídolos   
In this unit students will study the positive and negative influences of famous role models on Spanish people. The units studied cover: -singers and musicians -stars of TV and cinema -models
Assessment: As well as regular vocabulary tests throughout the unit the end of unit assessment will consist of: - reading and listening comprehension - translation (Spanish to English) - completing a speaking card taskKey Words and Terms
 
Term 2/3Aspects of Hispanic Society: El Ciberespacio   
Students will study three areas of modern technology and analyse their positive and negative influence on Hispanic society -The influence of Internet -Smartphones -Social Media
Assessment: Students will complete regular vocabulary tests throughout the unit. The end of unit assessment will consist of listening, reading, translation and speaking. Key Words and Terms
 
Term 2/3Artistic culture in the Hispanic world: La identidad regional en España   
In this unit students will study the cultural and regional variations in Spain across three different topic areas: -traditions and customs -food and drink -languages
Assessment: End of unit assessment to consist of: - reading and listening comprehension - translation (Spanish to English) - speaking card Key Words and Terms
 
Term 4Aspects of Hispanic society: La igualdad de los sexos    
In this unit students will cover equality of the sexes in the Hispanic world. The following topic areas will be taught -Women in the workplace -Machismo y feminismo -The rights of gay and transgender people - some Spanish and Latin-Amequality orican dances and their impact on popular culture
Assessment: In addition to regular vocabulary testing throughout the unit, the end of unit assessment will consist of: - reading and listening comprehension - translation (Both into and out of the TL) - speaking card Key Words and Terms
 
Term 4Artistic culture in the Hispanic world: El patrimonio cultural    
In this unit students will study civilization and culture that as contributed to Spain's heritage: -Prehispanic places and civilisations - Art and Architecture - The diversity of Hispanic music and dance
Assessment: Students will be tested on vocabulary throughout the unit. The end of unit assessment will comprise: - reading and listening comprehension - Translation (both into and out of TL)Key Words and Terms
 
Term 5/6Film Study  
Through studying 'El laberinto del fauno' by Guillermo del Toro this term, students will: - develop a detailed understanding and appreciation of film, by writing critical and analytical responses in Spanish. - produce responses that show critical appreciation of features such as: - key concepts and issues - characterisation; - form and technique of presentation, e.g. effect of narrative voice in prose text, effect of camera work in film - social and cultural setting; as appropriate to the work studied - present viewpoints, develop arguments, draw conclusions, analyse and evaluate in writing
Assessment: Students will complete at least 3 essays on 'El laberinto del fauno' from a variety of question choices and they will complete a vocab and translation assessment.Key Words and Terms
