| The GCSE course starts with students learning about the basic camera skills and gaining confidence in creating effective compositions. Students focus on the 'formal elements' such as; line, texture, pattern, form and study the work of other photographers that explore these elements in their work. Students learn about studio light and natural light and how light plays a crucial part in creating an effective photograph. Students work entirely digitlally and start to create online portfolios, that are worked on and developed throughout the entire course. |

| Term 2 | Movement & Light | |

| Students start to learn more about long and quick exposures in photography. How can the shutter speed affect the image? Students have fun learning how to capture the perfect 'Jump' inspired by the photographer Philippe Halsman. Students also experiment with light painting and create longer exposures of light and figures moving. This can create great outcomes that students really enjoy making! |

| Term 3 | Light & Dark | |

| The third photography assignment focuses on the theme, 'Light & Dark'. Here, students get to study inspiring Photographers who explore shadows, creative portraiture and still life. Students experiment with studio lighting and creating intriguing still life compostions and close up portraiture. Students have more opportunitites to plan their own photoshoots and develop further with their use of Photoshop and portfoilio work. |
| Assessment: Students will be assessed with regular verbal feedback and have chances to reflect on their practice, planning ways to review and refine the work being created.
