KS3 Curriculum Guide - Year 8 French
Term 1/Term 2T’es branché(e)?   
In this unit pupils learn to talk extensively about their taste in books and films, describe their use of the internet and the weather, review the regular use of the present tense and learn some of the irregular forms. Students are encouraged to give and ask for their own opinions on
Assessment: For the first assessment of Year 8, students will complete listening and reading assessments where gist meaning will be tested and students will start to see longer texts where they will be looking for more detail. Students will also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 2/Term 3Mon identité   
In this unit pupils learn to talk about themselves extensively, by describing theirs and other people’s personality, hobbies, and taste in music and clothing. Grammar: students will study the perfect (past) tense and learn more on irregular present tense.
Assessment: Students will sit a writing task and complete a speaking presentation based on the content taught during term 2. Students will incorporate the structures and vocabulary they have learnt this module as well as incorporating and revising material from Module 1. Students will also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 4/Term 5Chez moi, chez toi   
In this unit pupils learn to talk about where they live extensively and about food (eating and shopping), by using il faut+ infinitive. They also approach the near future tense in more detail.
Assessment: Students will sit a variety of listening and reading tasks which will mainly include structures and vocabulary from the current unit, but also recall on prior knowledge. Students will also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 5/6Quel talent?!   
In this unit pupils learn to talk about their particular skills by taking part in a talent show. They express their opinion on the contestants and give them advice, using the imperative.
Assessment: There are two assessments at the end of Term 6: writing and speaking. The assessments will mainly include structures and vocabulary from the current unit, but also recall on prior knowledge and introduce a creative element. Pupils will be assessed on a wide range of vocabulary to demonstrate their ability to use language in a range of contexts. Students will also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
