KS3 Curriculum Guide - Year 7 French
Term 1/Term 2Accèss  
Module to introduce students to French and recap for those who have studied it in primary school. We look at greetings, spellings, numbers, dates. Also we'll talk about classroom, colours, family, hobbies and where you live. We'll introduce students to basic grammar: definite and indefinite articles, adjectives and genders, possessive adjectives and the verbs 'avoir' and 'etre'
Assessment: There are two assessments at the end of Term 1; Speaking and writing. Students will build upon their speaking practice to develop their conversational skills of question and answer and take part in a short exchange asking and answering questions in French. They will also complete a basic translation exercise and a short paragraph putting together all the language they have studied in the unit. Students will be also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 2/Term 3C'est perso!   
In this unit pupils learn to talk about themselves in more detail, as well as listening and reading about other people, using a range of adjectives and endings, as well as pronouns (je, tu, il/elle) in the present tense.
Assessment: Two skills are tested in this assessment: Listening and Reading. Each assessment is designed to test students' ability to: read for context, to pick out key information and to apply their understanding of 1st to 3rd person singular conjugation of verbs studied in the present tense. Students will be also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 4/Term 5Mes Passetemps   
Students will talk about what they do in their free time depending on the weather. They will also discuss what other people like doing. Students will consider more ER verbs and some irregular verbs. Sport will be considered using 'jouer a' and 'faire de' and students will revise 'opnions' and 'infinitive'.
Assessment: Students will sit a speaking and writing task based on their hobbies and free time. Speaking will take the form of a role play and the written task will encompass translation tasks and a short written piece (40 words) in present tense about their past times. Students will be also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 5/6Mon collège  
Students will discuss school, subject facilities and school day routine. They will learn different ways of giving opinions as well as new grammar concepts such as partitive articles and the 'on' form. This module will introduce longer texts and start students learning lots of new vocabulary.
Assessment: Students will sit a listening and reading task based on the content taught during the mon collège topic. They will answer a variety of multiple choice and comprehension questions on longer texts to check for understanding of gist and detail. Students will be also be assessed regularly through vocab tests.Key Words and Terms
