KS4 Curriculum Guide - Year 10 French
Term 1/2Module 1. Qui suis-je   
This unit will introduce students to the demands of the GCSE course. It will utilise students' prior learning at Key Stage 3 and will build upon this to enable them to communicate at GCSE level. The unit will be split into four main sections: revising friends and family vocabulary, places in a town, describing leisure activities and life when you were younger.
Assessment: Assessment for the first unit will be listening, reading and writing based on familiar question types from KS3 and some new GCSE question types. Students will continue to complete regular vocabulary tests and retrieval quizzes. Key Words and Terms
 
Term 2/3Module 2. Le temps de loisirs   
This unit will revisit familiar topics from KS3 at GCSE level. In this unit, students will learn important vocabulary related to free-time and leisure activities. They will discuss their TV and film preferences, sports and leisure time and life online.
Assessment: Students will complete a broad range of assessment tasks, including two speaking tasks (a role play and a photo card). They will complete a 80-90 word writing piece which mirrors the task from the both the foundation and higher tiers. Key Words and Terms
 
Term 4Module 3: Jours ordinaires, jours de fête   
In this unit, students will cover important vocabulary related to food, shopping and celebrations. Questions forms will be the focus for this unit and the difference between the tu and the vous form. Student will develop their spontaneous speaking.
Assessment: Students complete a full range of assessment tasks, with a focus on general conversation for speaking and photocard writing tasks (for foundation tier), and 80-90 word writing (for higher tier). Students will continue to complete regular vocabulary tests.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 5Module 4: De la ville á la campagne   
This unit focuses on describing towns, cities and regions. Students will also learn key weather vocabulary and giving positive and negative opinions. Grammatical study will revise the use past present and future tenses together.
Assessment: For this unit students will focus on longer pieces of writing for different purposes and translation short sentences (foundation) and longer paragraphs (higher). Students will continue to complete regular vocabulary tests and retrieval quizzes. Key Words and Terms
 
Term 6Module 5: Le grand large    
Students' will cover the topic of holidays and will consider past, present, future and ideal holidays. Students develop their existing vocabulary related to travel and will practise role play scenarios in various travel contexts.
Assessment: Assessment for this unit covers a broad spectrum of tasks, including a variety of speaking tasks (role play, photo card and general conversation). Students focus on transactional language in both listening, reading and speaking tasks. Key Words and Terms
