| Students are introduced to the formal elements in Art and will use a wide range of 2D materials to broaden their understanding. This will be learnt through drawing and painting. They will then build skills in mark making, shading and line drawing. Students are also taught about colour theory. they are taught how to mix colours using watercolour paint and how to apply paint effectively. They will then go on to create their own abstract compositions, inspired by the love of music and the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky. |
| Assessment: Students will recieve regular verbal feedback in their lessons. They will also take part in self and peer assessments opportunities, alongside time for DIRT (dedicated, improvement and reflection time)

| Year 7 continue to explore the formal elements in art, learning about colour theory and how to use paint effectively. Students start to explore the meaning of composition. Students will analyse and understand more about the work of Wassily Kandinsky, which leads to them creating their own compositions, based on their favourite music. |

| Terms 4, 5 and 6 | Cakes and Sweets - Pop Art | |

| Students will learn about shape and form within observational drawing. They will be observing the structure, colour and texture of delicious cakes and sweets. Students will learn how to draw from observation, using a variety of drawing materials. They will start to understand how to use shading and tone techniques to create more realistic studies. Students will also experiment further with their use of colour, and explore the wonderful qualities of clay, creating 3D sculptures of cup cakes. |
