Drama Overview

Term 1: Exploration of theatre practitioners and styles

Students will practically explore key practitioners and theatre styles

including:-

 Stanislavski

 Brecht

 Theatre in Education

Students will explore these styles through improvisation and script work and keep a written record of what they have learnt. Students will also learn about stage positioning and different staging configurations and explore these practically.

Students will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding of theatre through their participation in teacher led workshops and low stakes quizzes.

Term 6: Devising from a stimulus

Students will work in groups to develop their devised piece.They will perform their work in progress to the class and respond to feedback given. They will continue to document the process in their logbook.

Students will be assessed on their performance within the piece and on their logbook of the process.

Term 5: Blood Brothers and live theatre evaluation

Students will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of Blood Brothers and begin to explore the requirements for the exam. They will also develop their analysis and evaluation skills in relation to the live production they have seen.

Students will be assessed in the form of quizzes and practice exam questions.

Term 2: Devising from a stimulus

Students will be given a range of stimuli from which to devise new material in the style of one of practitioners explored in term 4. Students will begin by practically exploring themes, sharing ideas and then plan and rehearse their piece. Students will start their logbook which documents the devising process. Students will learn about the roles and responsibilities in the theatre including activities they may undertake on a day to day basis and the aspects of the production for

which they are accountable.

Students will be assessed by performing their work in progress to the class. Their understanding of the process will be assessed in their devising logbook.

Term 4: Blood Brothers

Students will explore Blood Brothers by Willy Russell. Study will involve developing knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and context of the whole play and exploring ideas for how the play may be interpreted practically.

Students will be assessed in the form of quizzes and practice exam questions.

Term 3: Blood Brothers

Students will explore Blood Brothers by Willy Russell. Study will involve developing knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and context of the whole play and exploring ideas for how the play may be interpreted practically. Students will also explore how design elements such as set design, lighting, sound and costume could be used to enhance the production.

Students will be assessed in the form of quizzes and practice exam questions.
